Hamilton Environmentalists of the Year Awards and UNAC Hamilton Branch AGM
March 2007

The Hamilton Environmentalists of the Year Awards are scheduled for Wednesday June 6, 2007 at Michelangelo's in Hamilton, Ontario. More information about the event and tickets is available on the web site at www.eoyawards.org.

The UNAC Hamilton Branch will also hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on this date and at the same location immediately before the start of the Awards Ceremonies.

All members are welcome to join us for the AGM!



2nd Annual Global Citizenship Conference
January 2007

The 2nd Annual Global Citizenship Conference will be held at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario on March 2-4, 2007. Information can be found at the conference web site www.mcmaster.ca/gcc.

The UNAC Hamilton Branch is facilitating a workshop on Sunday March 4, 2007 entitled "Think Globally, Act Locally: Today's Youth for Tomorrow's Leaders" and will also have a booth on site at the Ideological Clubs Marketplace.

5th Annual Conference on Peace Education
August 2006

The 5th Annual National Peace Education Conference will be held at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario this coming November 20-27, 2006. Information can be found at the conference web site www.peace-education.ca. The theme for this year's conference is: Violence Exposed: Exploring the Normalization of Violence and the Paths to Peace in Education. This theme seeks to ask the questions: Where do we learn to accept violence, and how may we redirect lessons that teach violence towards something more positive through education?.

Representatives from the Board of the Hamilton Branch of the UNAC will be facilitating two different workshops on The Safe Haven Story and Stealth Peace Curricula

Annual UNAC Hamilton Branch Bursary Awarded
June 2006

We are very pleased to announce the recipient of this year's Hamilton Branch Bursary Award, in conjunction with the Hamilton Community Foundation.

This year's recipient is Jessica Pilarczyk, a graduate student in the School of Geography and Earth Sciences at McMaster University. Jessica's MSc research is an outstanding commitment to helping monitor shoreline change and sea turtle nesting success in Playa Ostional, Gaunacastle Province, Costa Rica.

Congratulations Jessica!
